Bob Willis grew up in Chicago and starting sailing out of the Columbia Yacht Club at the age of eight. He progressed quickly through the national Junior Sailing scene and placed top 5 at many national events. Towards the end of his sailing career at Columbia, he casually picked up windsurfing with his brother and a few friends. Bob, however, seemed to obsess over it. Head Coach Ted Hale will be coaching the race team again this summer, with goals of his junior sailors placing in every major event in the midwest. A denizen of Annapolis, MD, Ted has been competitively sailing since he was 7 years old. He has competed internationally since age 12 in the Optimist, at the Worlds in La Coruna Spain, as well as other international Championships in the Canary Islands, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, New Zealand and Canada to name just a few. It is with great sadness that the Columbia Sailing School says goodbye to one of our own, James Miles Shepherd III. James will be remembered for all of his accomplishments on and off the water, but above all he will be remembered for the lives he has touched. Jamie reached out to everyone, adding and enriching all those lucky enough to share a moment with him.
